The incident occurred at around 11.35am on Friday, 26 September, at the roundabout connecting the A281 (West Road), Poynings Road and Saddlescombe Road.
It was reported that a motorcycle lost control after entering the roundabout to avoid a collision with a car. The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene.
A 79-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, with officers pursuing several lines of enquiry.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said:
“We encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or who has relevant information such as CCTV, mobile or dashcam footage to report it to us.”
