Farewell Miss Jason: Brighton’s Beloved Drag Performer Dies

Remembering Miss Jason, who entertained Brighton and TV audiences for over 20 years with charm and wit.

The city of Brighton is in mourning following the death of renowned drag queen Miss Jason, real name Jason Sutton, who passed away earlier today. Known for his vibrant performances and enduring presence in the drag community, Miss Jason’s career spanned over two decades, leaving a legacy of joy and inclusivity.

Miss Jason was a familiar face both on and off the stage, captivating audiences with appearances on popular television shows such as Channel 4’s “Come Dine With Me” and BBC One’s “Blankety Blank.” His charisma and wit made him a beloved figure among TV viewers and live audiences alike.

In December 2023, he starred in the pantomime Cinderella at The Doubletree by Hilton Brighton Metropole, showcasing his versatile talent and continuing to perform despite health challenges. In 2020, the Brighton community rallied to support him through a fundraising initiative that helped procure hearing aids after he was diagnosed with a tumour that affected his hearing and balance.

A statement from his management team at Smash Talent reflects the deep loss felt by those who knew him: “We are very saddened to hear that Jason has passed away this morning. Jason was an incredible light in our community with 32 years of entertaining us all, and it won’t be the same without them. Jason will never be forgotten. We love you and will miss you immensely. Our thoughts are with Terry Ward, his family, and his friends at this time.”

As tributes pour in, the impact of Miss Jason’s life and work remains evident. He not only entertained but also forged a path of acceptance and celebration within the community, making him a cherished icon in Brighton and beyond.
