Regency Radio Welcomes John Mann to Presentation Team

Regency Radio is thrilled to announce the newest addition to our presentation team, John Mann. Born and raised in Brighton, John brings a wealth of experience and passion for radio broadcasting to the South Coast airwaves.

John’s journey into radio began in his school days when he was inspired by stations like Radio Caroline and Radio London. He launched Radio Atlantis, a 70s land-based pirate station that captivated Southern England audiences from a studio nestled in his Nan’s garden shed at Portland Rd Hove, using the on-air pseudonym Barbarous Plume. His early career also saw him hosting shows on Radio 312 Falmer from Sussex University and spinning tunes at iconic Brighton clubs like The Birds Nest, Seven Stars, Cinderellas, and Radio Top Shop in Western Rd, alongside his duties as a lifeguard on Hove Beach.

After a stint in Canadian radio, John joined BBC Radio Brighton, later transitioning to Southern Sound Radio where he hosted the weekday drive-time show and a Saturday night Soul and Funk show, often broadcasting live from Brighton’s vibrant nightlife scene. He then ventured north to help launch Great North Radio in Newcastle before taking on roles as station manager and mid-morning presenter for West Sound Radio Dumfries and Galloway. Subsequently, he lent his expertise as a program consultant and presenter for BBC Northeast and Cumbria, hosting regional shows across various BBC stations.

Now residing in the countryside with his wife Alison and beloved pets, John is excited to return to his roots with “John Mann’s Treasure Chest,” airing every Monday evening at 7 PM exclusively on Regency Radio. The show promises a dynamic mix of Soul, Motown, Rock, Reggae, and surprises galore.

Reflecting on his return to broadcasting in his hometown, John remarked, “It’s great to be broadcasting across my home patch again after so many years and playing a mix of Soul, Motown, Rock, and Reggae, with a few surprises along the way!”

Join us in welcoming John Mann to the Regency Radio family as we embark on this exciting new chapter of broadcasting excellence.

Regency radio is available on DAB in Brighton & Hove online on the Regency App and via smart speakers.
