Bexhill Duo Sentenced for Series of High-End Vehicle Thefts and Burglaries

Lewes Crown Court

Two men have received sentences for their involvement in a string of vehicle thefts and burglaries across East Sussex. The crimes, which predominantly targeted high-end vehicles like Jaguars, Land Rovers, and Range Rovers, occurred in the Bexhill, Hastings, and Eastbourne regions from July to August of the previous year.

Additionally, two burglaries in Bexhill on July 28 and September 21, and a criminal damage incident at a Bexhill construction site on August 26, were reported.

Tyrese Cannon, 19, from Oak Road in Bexhill, was apprehended and charged with seven motor vehicle thefts, three burglaries, and one count of criminal damage. Further efforts by the Community Investigations Team led to the arrest of 19-year-old Dave Hendley, also from Oak Road, Bexhill. Hendley faced charges of three vehicle thefts, one burglary, and driving offenses.

Both men appeared at Lewes Crown Court for sentencing, having previously pleaded guilty to all charges. Cannon received a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. He also faces a 12-month driving ban, 150 hours of unpaid work, and is required to participate in a rehabilitation program. Hendley’s sentence was 15 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 20 months, along with 200 hours of unpaid work and a mandate to engage in a rehabilitation program.

Police Constable Ciaran Gaymer, of the CIT, said: “We are aware of the impact vehicle crime and burglary has on our communities and we will continue to be robust in our approach to tackling such criminality.

“There are steps that owners can take to prevent theft of keyless entry vehicles, such as keeping key fobs in Faraday bags and using a steering wheel lock to help prevent crime.

“I urge anyone who sees anyone acting suspiciously in their communities to report this online or by calling 101.”
