Skilled artist honours national treasure: New Hastings community center reveals Attenborough mural


In a stirring display of community spirit and artistic brilliance, the opening of W.Ave Arts – The Compound community centre on Bexhill Road, Hastings, is set to leave a lasting impression on locals and visitors alike. A stunning mural honouring Sir David Attenborough, the beloved British natural historian and broadcaster, will serve as an inspirational backdrop to the centre’s extensive community services.

The mural, a brainchild of the exceptionally gifted artist Abraham.O, is a breathtaking tribute to Sir David, who recently celebrated his milestone 96th birthday. It is an embodiment of his more than six decades of unwavering dedication towards fostering a love for nature and our planet. This mural stands as a testament to his invaluable contributions and enduring legacy.

A W.Ave Arts spokesperson told this Sussex News: “The concept was born from our founder, Carol Cook, who sought to ignite inspiration and create something truly extraordinary for the vibrant community of West St Leonard’s. The vision was entrusted to none other than the talented Abraham, who flawlessly brought it to life.”

Abraham.O has masterfully rendered this vision, capturing the spirit and essence of Sir David Attenborough in a work that is sure to inspire awe and reverence in all who view it. His exceptional skill and creativity have endowed the community centre with an artwork of immense significance.

Located at the rear of the community centre, the mural graces a building on Bulverhythe Road currently under refurbishment. The grand unveiling is eagerly anticipated on August 12th, promising a feast for the eyes and a source of community pride.

The community centre at 161 Bexhill Road, TN38 8BG, is an exciting new addition to Hastings, with the mural serving as a radiant beacon of the community’s spirit.
