Suspected Stolen Car Crashes into Berwick Level Crossing Barriers

The road on either side of Berwick railway station was closed today 16th May 2024 shortly after 11:30 AM following a police chase that ended with a car colliding with the level crossing barriers. Trains were also brought to a halt blocking the Line between Lewes and Eastbourne whilst Network rail cleared the debris and fixed damaged equipment

The vehicle involved, a blue Alfa Romeo Stelvio V6, was being pursued northbound by police. Authorities believe the car was stolen and was operating on cloned plates. Despite the collision, the driver did not stop and fled the scene.search to locate the vehicle.

Later in the day, the abandoned Alfa Romeo was discovered in the village of Horam, approximately 10 miles from the initial crash site. The search for the suspect continues as police gather more information.
