Incident claims the life of elderly paddleboarder off Worthing beach

In a tragic incident on Sunday afternoon, a man in his 70s lost his life while paddleboarding off Worthing Beach. The Littlehampton Coastguard Rescue Team swiftly responded to a distress call around 5:40 pm, reporting a male in distress in the water. The incident prompted the immediate dispatch of emergency services, including the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb), Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance (KSS Air Ambulance) and local police.

According to a Sussex Police spokesman, the authorities provided support to HM Coastguard and the ambulance service during the incident. It was determined that the man encountered difficulties while paddleboarding and subsequently required medical assistance.

Emergency medical personnel from the ambulance service promptly attended to the man, delivering critical care on-site. Tragically, despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have notified his next of kin.
