Sussex Police are actively investigating a series of distraction thefts targeting elderly patrons at the Lloyds Bank on South Road in Haywards Heath. Following these incidents, which occurred on January 6 and February 11, authorities have circulated a CCTV image of a man they are keen to identify and interview.

During the reported incidents, senior citizens were notably distracted while engaged in transactions at the bank’s ATM. This tactic enabled the perpetrator(s) to interfere with the withdrawal process.

In light of these events, the police are emphasizing the importance of vigilance while using cash machines. Individuals are encouraged to remain alert, focusing on their immediate environment to deter potential thieves. If patrons notice suspicious behavior or individuals, they are advised to withdraw money inside the bank where it’s safer.

To assist the public, the police have provided additional guidance on their website on safeguarding oneself against ATM theft.

The man police are seeking to identify is described as a slim individual in his 30s, around 5’8” tall, dressed in dark attire, including a black coat.

The community is urged to assist in the investigation. Anyone with information or who recognizes the individual in the CCTV footage is encouraged to contact Sussex Police directly or call 101, referencing serial 483 of 12/02.
