Officer Charged with Causing Serious Injury in Eastbourne Crash

PC Ben Carslake charged over serious injury incident while on duty.

A Sussex Police officer has been charged with causing serious injury by driving without due care and attention in Eastbourne.

Following a thorough investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised the charge against PC Ben Carslake, 30. He is scheduled to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on 24 June.

The incident in question occurred on 11 December 2022, while PC Carslake was on duty and responding to an emergency call. During this response, his vehicle was involved in a collision with another car, resulting in serious injuries.

The Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) was promptly notified of the incident and directed that a local investigation be conducted by the Professional Standards Department. The findings from this investigation led to the CPS’s decision to charge the officer.
