Brighton and Hove Council recently announced an upcoming ban on pavement parking in the vibrant Elm Grove area, set to take effect next month. Following the approval from the council’s Environment, Transport, and Sustainability committee in January, the decision was made in response to concerns raised by local residents during a previous meeting.
To ensure compliance, the council began advertising a Traffic Regulation Order in March, with noticeable signage now installed throughout the designated area. While warning notices are currently being issued to motorists, starting from Monday, June 5, vehicles parked on the pavement in Elm Grove will be subject to Penalty Charge Notices.
Councillor Trevor Muten, esteemed chair of the Transport & Sustainability Committee, highlighted the ban’s purpose in prioritizing pedestrian safety, facilitating easier access for residents to their homes, improving mobility for wheelchair users, individuals utilizing mobility scooters, and parents with pushchairs. Moreover, the ban serves to protect the integrity of the pavement, preventing any potential damage.
This prohibition mirrors similar measures implemented in other parts of the city, such as Portland Road and Carden Avenue. By expanding the ban to Elm Grove, Brighton and Hove Council continues its commitment to enhancing the overall safety and accessibility of the city’s streets, fostering a pedestrian-friendly environment for all residents and visitors.
