A situation unfolded at the University of Sussex on Wednesday, February 7, as armed police swarmed the campus following a security report received around 11:30 a.m. Students reported sightings of officers searching the area.
Despite the immediate and comprehensive search efforts by the police, the individual at the center of the alert was not found on campus, leading to a wider investigation that extended beyond university grounds.
The breakthrough came when police, following up on additional leads, arrested a 22-year-old man from Brighton. He was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Upon further investigation, authorities determined that there was no malicious intent behind the individual’s actions. Consequently, the situation was resolved through a community resolution approach. The police have decided to focus on educating the young man about the consequences and dangers associated with carrying a knife in public spaces.
