Sussex police successfully convict Brighton man for 2006-2007 child abuse

Spencer Gorringe, a 50-year-old man from Bear Road in Brighton, has been jailed for 12 years after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two young girls in his home between 2006 and 2007. The girls, aged between ten and 13 at the time, reported the abuse in 2019, which prompted an investigation by Sussex Police.

The victims came forward after reading news articles about Gorringe’s previous conviction in 2015 for making and possessing indecent images of children. Following their report, an investigation was launched, and Gorringe was arrested and charged with multiple counts of assault.

At Brighton Crown Court on Tuesday, April 25, Gorringe was found guilty of all eight offences, including five counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by touching, two counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration, and one count of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15.

Detective Constable Vicki Blythe praised the bravery of the victims, who have grown into courageous women, for reporting the abuse and supporting the prosecution. She expressed her hope that the sentence would provide some measure of closure for the victims and emphasized that it is never too late to report crime. The Sussex Police force remains committed to investigating all reports of abuse and bringing perpetrators to justice.
