A coordinated effort was launched to search for a person who had potentially jumped into the water from Brighton Pier in the earlier hours of this morning (22 July). The rescue team, consisting of Newhaven Coastguard, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, Brighton RNLI, and Sussex Police, carried out an extensive search on and around the pier.

During the search, the RNLI spotted a person in the water and quickly pulled them to safety. The individual was taken ashore to receive care from the Coastguard team and was transported to SECAMB. However, it was soon discovered that this person was not the individual that the teams had been tasked to search for.

The search continued between Brighton Marina and Brighton Pier. Eventually, the missing person was located by Dukes Mound, having fallen from the promenade.

Shoreham Coastguard in a statement said: “SECAMB on scene and gave casualty care. It was established that the individual was the casualty that teams had been tasked to, casualty taken to hospital and all assets stood down and returned to stations.”
