Amy Jones, a 31-year-old woman of no fixed abode, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison following a series of shoplifting incidents and an assault in West Sussex and Brighton. Jones’s criminal spree spanned from July 4 to September 6, 2023, during which she committed 19 offenses across the region.
Her shoplifting targets included a range of local stores:
- Co-op on High Street, Shoreham
- Waterstones on George Street, Hove
- M&S on Montague Street, Worthing
- Tesco Express on Goring Road, Worthing
- Several Co-op stores in Worthing (Plaza Parade, South Street, Rowlands Road) and in Shoreham (Ham Road)
Over the course of these incidents, Jones stole merchandise valued at over £2000. In addition to her shoplifting charges, she was convicted for assaulting a security guard during an incident at the M&S store on Montague Street on July 10.
In addition to her prison sentence, Jones received a three-year criminal behaviour order (CBO). She was also ordered to pay £187 in compensation. The sentencing took place at Lewes Crown Court on December 15th.
