On November 29th, the Hastings Coastguard team, in coordination with HM Coastguard Bexhill, responded to an emergency in Hastings Country Park where an individual had suffered a suspected fractured ankle after slipping in mud. The injured person, who was unable to bear weight on the affected ankle, was located at a significant distance from an accessible ambulance point.
Given the challenging terrain and the distance involved, a conventional stretcher evacuation was considered unfeasible. As a result, the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was deployed for the operation. The paramedic aboard the helicopter administered pain relief to the casualty before safely winching them aboard for transport.
Additionally, HM Coastguard – Rye Bay played a crucial role by setting up a helicopter landing site at Conquest Hospital. This ensured a smooth handover of the casualty for further medical care
