Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat launched to locate missing walkers

At 23.25 on 7 June, PLIRB pagers were set off by UK Coastguards. They were tasked to participate in a multi-agency search for two missing teenagers who had got into difficulties in the dark, and were cut off by the tide between Cliff End and Fairlight Glen.

The crew responded immediately and rapidly launched the Pulfer boat. They were tasked to conduct a shoreline search from sea while Coastguard teams searched on land. Conditions were pretty treacherous with a receding tide, low level water and hazardous rocks.

The casualties were located at the bottom of the cliffs, tired and cold, but otherwise unhurt. They were transferred to the PLIRB rescue boat and returned safely to the boathouse, for their onward journey home.

PLIRB Added “A big thanks to all the crew and everyone who supports us to remain rescue ready”
