Surfer rescues man in distress from the water in Brighton

Shoreham Coastguard Team along with Brighton Lifeboat were paged at 20:25 Monday evening to male in water at Brighton pier .

Upon the coastguards arrival a body surfer had pulled the person from the water and was ashore. Casualty had ingested large amounts salt water due to the length of time in the water, and was also hyperthermic.

SECAMB paramedics administered first aid before transferring him, along with Coastguards, to the ambulance for transferral to hospital for further treatment.

Shoreham Coastguard would like to remind everyone to “Please stay away from shoreline and breaking waves in rough conditions. A photo or a bit of wave fun can soon turn into a serious incident before you know it .”

If you see anyone in trouble along the coastline, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
