Coastguard Helicopter draws giant Christmas Tree in the sky during training flight

Earlier this week (20th December 2022) a UK Search and Rescue team helicopter drew an enormous Christmas tree over Dartmoor. During a training session, the helicopter crew decided to create a festive surprise – although some people raised concerns, many praised the uplifting route.

The design was spotted on FlightRadar24 aircraft tracking software by aviation enthusiasts and posted to social media.

We have made an extra cheesy little Christmasy video of their exercise here for you.

A spokesman for Bristow Helicopters said: “UK Search and Rescue teams are constantly training and on this occasion, they were able to plan a particularly seasonal route for their routine helicopter exercises.

“An authorised and planned low-level navigational training session gave the team an opportunity to create what might be the largest Christmas tree in the UK – while keeping their vital, lifesaving skills honed and ready to respond, 24/7.”

We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and am happy new year – The Sussex News Team
