Hundreds protest felling of Shoreham tree – The Shoreham Poplar Front

Hundreds gathered today in Shoreham to march and protest the felling of a large, healthy Grey Poplar tree. The tree is been provided with a 24/7 Tree “protection vigil” of around one hundred members.

The Group Sussex Poplar Front sort inspiration of their groups name from the 1970s Sitcom Citizen Smith. The felling has been justified by the developers of the plot arguing as necessary to build essential affordable housing for around 25 people.

The lands developers have also stated they will be plotting 15 tress on the boundaries of the new site. As part of the ongoing protests a treehouse has been established and have many protesters have engaged in arts activities to raise awareness for there cause. At this moment over three thousand people have signed a petition to halt the felling.
