Man charged after violent attempted robbery in Jubilee Street, Brighton

Officers in Brighton and Hove have charged a man with a number of offences after a violent attempted robbery that left a man with serious injuries.

A group of people reported being approached by two men in the early hours of Wednesday, June 29 in Jubilee Street.

After being threatened by the pair, two members of the group were assaulted, with one suffering significant injuries including a broken arm and a cut to his leg believed to be from a weapon.

The victims called the police after the assailants fled the scene and, after a short search, a suspect matching one of their descriptions was found in nearby Pavilion Gardens.

Roman Lee, 18, of Clarence Square in Brighton, was arrested and subsequently charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, actual bodily harm, assault by beating, attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He was also in breach of an existing Community Protection Notice prohibiting him from entering Pavilion Gardens.

Lee appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 12, and was remanded in custody, pending an appearance at a court to be confirmed on August 9.
