Individual Saved from Cold Waters by Kayaker

Selsey Coastguard Team responded to an emergency call on January 14, 2024, at 12:33 PM, regarding an individual in the water at Dell Quay, assisted by the Hayling Coastguard Rescue Team. The incident occurred as the person was moving from their boat to a smaller boat to reach the shore. Fortunately, a nearby kayaker noticed the person struggling in the water and managed to pull them to safety.

The Hayling Lifeboat team was also dispatched, successfully retrieving the person from the shoreline and transporting them to the meeting point where the Selsey Coastguard was ready. The individual was suffering from severe cold, prompting immediate efforts to warm them up while awaiting ambulance arrival. Upon the ambulance’s arrival, the individual was transferred into their care for further medical assistance.

This incident serves as a critical reminder of the importance of wearing a life jacket while on the water, as it can be lifesaving in accidental overboard situations. For any sea, beach, or coastal emergencies, the public is advised to call 999 and request the Coastguard’s assistance.
