Severe Cold Snap to Hit South-East England, Lasting Until January 12th

A 90% chance of severe cold weather is expected in South-East England from 12:00 today, 8th January, until 21:00 on Friday, 12th January. This could pose increased health risks, especially for vulnerable individuals, and may affect service delivery. Refer to the national Adverse Weather Health Plan for guidance.

Details are available on the Cold-Health Alert platform.

Particularly at risk are the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.

If you’re responsible for or know someone vulnerable to cold weather, ensure they remain warm and well-prepared for this period.

Key tips:

  • Stay updated with weather forecasts.
  • Keep indoor temperatures at least 18C.
  • Stay warm and active. Dress appropriately for the cold, including non-slip footwear for outdoor activities.
  • In case of health or welfare concerns for yourself or others, don’t hesitate to contact emergency services.
