Dramatic Rescue at Camber Sands: Two Saved from Rising Tide

Two people saved from tidal waters with help from local rescue teams.

Wednesday evening, during a routine local knowledge patrol, HM Coastguard Romney Marsh was called into action by the Solent Operations room to assist multiple individuals trapped by the rising tide at Camber Sands.

Upon arrival at the scene, Sussex Police identified two individuals stranded on a wreck, already surrounded by water. Two coastguards were immediately dispatched into the water, using tethered lines to reach the casualties. The Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat was also deployed, playing a crucial role in safely extricating the individuals and bringing them back to shore.

Once ashore, the casualties were met by South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) and Sussex Police for further assistance. Additionally, HM Coastguard Rye Bay and RNLI Rye Harbour Lifeboat Station were on hand to provide essential backup during the rescue operation.

This successful rescue highlights the importance of timely intervention and coordinated efforts among emergency services. In case of an emergency along the coast, the public is reminded to dial 999 and ask for “The Coastguard”.
