Video: Hastings Lifeboat Volunteers Rush to Aid of Struggling Windsurfer

Monday 5th January 2024, at 12:05 PM, Hastings Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) was dispatched following a call from HM Coastguard about a windsurfer struggling off the coast of St Leonards. Under the capable leadership of the valiant helmsman Ross, alongside a dedicated team of volunteers, the ILB set out into the challenging conditions of a Force 5 south-west wind to execute a timely rescue.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, the crew reached the reported location swiftly. To their relief, they discovered that the windsurfer had already managed to navigate back to shore unaided. The individual, though safe, had not escaped unscathed, with their windsurfing equipment suffering damage in the ordeal. The rig was found laid up on the beach, indicating the struggles faced while at sea.

Upon the windsurfer’s safe return to shore, they were immediately attended to by HM Coastguard – Hastings, ensuring no harm had befallen them beyond the material damage to their equipment. Following the confirmation of the individual’s safety and well-being, the ILB crew made their way back to the station.
