PCs Daddy, Jenner and King successfully located and returned a statue of St Teresa to Christ Church in St Leonards on Sunday 24th July.
The 4ft tall statue was stolen from the church on Friday 22nd July in broad daylight.
As a heritage crime the theft was of particular significance due to the cultural as well as financial value.
Thankfully the officer’s attendance at the church and swift local enquiries led to the statue of St Teresa returning to her rightful place.
The sight of police officers carrying the statue into church during the morning service is something likely to live on in many people’s minds for some time.
They were welcomed by an emotional congregation, overjoyed at St Teresa’s return.
The investigation into the theft continues and we will update in a future newsletter.
