Appeal for Witnesses in Rustington Road Rage Incident

Sussex Police are calling for witnesses to come forward regarding a road incident in Rustington that occurred on Saturday, January 6th.

Around 9 pm, a distressing event unfolded when a man and woman, driving a blue Peugeot, reported being chased by another car, a grey Volkswagen Polo. The pursuit started from Station Road and continued to Abbotswood. During this chase, the Peugeot was repeatedly rammed by the Polo.

The situation escalated when both cars stopped in Abbotswood. A man emerged from the Volkswagen Polo and physically struck the victims’ car before fleeing the scene. The chase resumed, ending in Seafield Road, where the man once again exited his vehicle and struck the victims’ car. The victims eventually managed to get away and alerted the police.

A suspect was swiftly identified by the officers. A 33-year-old man from Littlehampton has been arrested on suspicion of stalking and dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail under strict conditions as the investigation proceeds.

Detective Inspector Ali Hutchings said: “This was a prolonged incident over a fairly large area that is likely to have been witnessed by a significant number of people.

“Anyone who saw the events of Saturday night, has relevant dashcam or doorbell footage, or has any information that could help, is asked to contact police online or via 101, quoting serial 1136 of 06/01.”
