Coastguard and Lifeboat Saves Two People and Dog Trapped by Tide

On November 25, 2023, at 16:30, the Selsey Coastguard Team was mobilised to West Wittering Beach following reports of two people and a dog trapped by the tide on a sand bar. In a coordinated effort, the Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 175 and the Hayling Lifeboat were also launched for the rescue operation.

The lifeboat, with aerial support from Rescue 175, successfully located and retrieved the stranded individuals and their pet, ensuring their safety. Following the rescue, Rescue 175 conducted a comprehensive search of the area, confirming no additional persons were at risk.

Fortunately, no medical assistance was required for the rescued parties.

The teams were then stood down and returned to their stations. This incident serves as a crucial reminder of the unpredictable nature of coastal tides and the importance of vigilance and preparedness.

The Coastguard advises beachgoers to always check tide times and in any coastal emergency, to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
