Police seize rape alarms in pre-Coronation arrests

Three individuals have been arrested in the Soho area on suspicion of conspiracy to commit public nuisance ahead of today’s Coronation procession. This follows intelligence received on May 5th indicating that groups and individuals seeking to disrupt the proceedings were planning to use and throw rape alarms.

Military colleagues expressed concern that such action could scare their horses involved in the procession, posing a significant risk to the safety of the public and riders.

The three arrested individuals, a 37-year-old woman, a 59-year-old woman, and a 47-year-old man, were found in possession of a number of rape alarms when stopped by officers at approximately 02:00hrs this morning. The 47-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

All three have since been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan acknowledged public concern over the arrests but emphasized that the matter is still under investigation. He stated, “The intelligence we received led us to be extremely worried about the potential risk to public safety. We are aware of and understand there is public concern over these arrests. However, the matter is still under investigation.”
