Parking guidelines issued ahead of May day bike run in Hastings

Hastings is gearing up for the traditional May Day bank holiday bike run tomorrow, 1 May. Although the formal ‘Bike1066’ event is not taking place, the town is eagerly anticipating the arrival of bikers for the annual celebration. To accommodate the influx of bikers, bike parking will be provided in Pelham Place car park on the seafront and the Stade open space in the Old Town.

However, Hastings Borough Council is reminding bikers to park their bikes in the designated parking areas and not on the road or pavements. The council has expressed concern over potential obstructions and delays for emergency vehicles due to past incidents where vehicles struggled to navigate the seafront and wheelchairs/pushchairs found it difficult to pass bikes on the pavement.

The council is urging people to be responsible and considerate to ensure that everyone can enjoy the event, including bikers, spectators, and visitors. If you plan to attend the event by car, the council has designated parking areas in the Priory Street, Carlisle Parade, and Priory Meadow car parks. However, those who usually park their cars in Pelham Place Car Park are advised to move their vehicles before 1 May.
