Iconic Sussex news voice loses battle with stage 4 cancer

The community expressed a wave of condolences across various social media platforms this past weekend, mourning the loss of Sharon Plummer, a former newsreader for Sussex radio, who has passed away at just 39 years of age.

Sharon Plummer, formerly known as Sharon Williams, received the news of her Stage 4 cancer diagnosis in September, a mere nine months following the birth of her daughter, Jemima.

A familiar voice in Sussex’s local radio scene, Sharon reported on a diverse array of news during her tenure as a journalist at Spirit FM in Chichester, Sovereign Radio in Eastbourne, Arrow FM in Hastings, and Splash FM in Worthing, all presently operating under the name More Radio. In recent times, she expanded her professional pursuits, delivering news broadcasts, voiceovers, and narrating audiobooks for a variety of national clients, working from her home studio situated in Lincolnshire.

In a compassionate response to her passing, former peers Joanna Flay and Laura Raymond have initiated a fundraising campaign via Go Fund Me, aiming to provide financial support to Sharon’s bereaved family during this challenging time.
