Updated: Emergency bottled water point runs dry after water outages in Peacehaven and Newhaven

Residents of Peacehaven and Newhaven are facing serious water supply issues following two bursts in the Southeast Water network. The problem, which has caused an immediate drop in water pressure and total water loss in some areas, has triggered an emergency response from Southeast Water.

“In the last 24 hours, we have seen two bursts on our network in the area. The first burst was fixed, and the second occurred overnight on a larger main. The result of this is that water in the two fresh drinking water storage tanks which serve these communities have run low,” the water company explained in a recent post.

To mitigate the inconvenience, the water company has initiated an emergency action plan, including deliveries of bottled water to their most vulnerable customers on the Priority Services List. They have also established a bottled water station at The Hub Peacehaven, Piddinghoe Avenue, Peacehaven, BN10 8RJ, which will remain operational until 9.00pm this evening.

The local MP, Lloyd Russell-Moyle, confirmed the situation on social media and encouraged residents to look out for each other during this challenging time. “All Southeast Water customers in Peacehaven will lose water imminently. Please check on vulnerable neighbours and let them know the situation and get them water if needed,” he urged.

As of now, Southeast Water teams are reported to be on-site, working to re-route water around the network to maintain supply where possible, while also planning to repair the burst main. However, Russell-Moyle noted that he had been informed that water might not be fully restored until the morning.

East Water expressed its regret for the inconvenience caused to its customers in Newhaven and Peacehaven in a statement on there website, asking for patience and cooperation while they work to resolve these issue.

Update 19:50 – We have received unconfirmed reports that emergency bottle water point has ran out at The Hub. However, South East water have now posted on social media “A quick update – There will be another delivery to The Hub in approximately 30 minutes, it’s on the way but stuck in traffic.”
