Tragic news has emerged from the search operation for a missing person who was reported to have entered the water off the coast of Brighton on April 12th. After a thorough search by Shoreham and Newhaven lifeboats, local coastguard teams, volunteers, and the HM Coastguard helicopter, a body was found on Saltdean beach at around 8:15 am on April 13th.
Sussex Police have confirmed the discovery of the body and stated that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing. The search operation had continued for around three hours on April 13th, with the lifeboats conducting a search in the waters, and the coastguard teams conducting a shoreline search between Peacehaven and Brighton West Pier.
A spokesperson for Newhaven RNLI said “Newhaven RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat and her volunteer crew have been stood down from service by HM Coastguard after over 10 hours of searching for a person in the water in the area of Brighton Palace Pier. Our volunteers have worked tirelessly throughout this multi-agency response in the face of challenging weather conditions. But, our thoughts remain with the loved ones of this person at this extremely difficult time.”
