Security guard turns hero: Rescues man from assault in Brighton alleyway

In a heartwarming act of bravery, Robert Hodges, a dedicated nightclub security officer, turned into a local hero when he rescued a man from a violent assault in an alleyway. The incident took place back in October, but the remarkable story has only recently come to light.

It was a typical evening for Hodges as he finished his shift at a popular nightclub in Brighton. Little did he know that his night would take an extraordinary turn. As he made his way through the bustling streets, he suddenly heard distressing screams piercing through the air. His instincts kicked in, and he swiftly followed the sound to find a man being forcibly dragged into a dimly lit alley.

Without hesitation, Hodges sprang into action, rushing towards the scene to intervene. With a display of incredible strength and courage, he managed to pull the distressed victim to safety just in the nick of time. Meanwhile, the perpetrators fled the area, realizing they had been thwarted by a genuine hero.

Hodges stayed by the victim’s side, offering comfort and reassurance until the local authorities arrived to launch an investigation. Fortunately, the victim suffered only minor injuries, such as scratches and bruises, and considered himself fortunate to escape more severe harm. Overwhelmed by gratitude, he composed a heartfelt letter addressed to Rob’s employers, expressing his admiration for the security officer’s selfless act.

The letter read, “His bravery to intervene in a situation where others would just walk by was truly admirable. The thought of what could have happened is truly horrible – instead, it’s only cost me a few scratches and bruises and a new pair of jeans. This guy is by far truly a hero, and when I come back to Brighton, I will thank him personally, but for now, I wanted him to know I am truly grateful.”

Recognising Hodges’ exceptional courage and quick thinking, the Brighton and Hove Police Division recently honored him at their divisional awards ceremony. On Tuesday, June 6th, Hodges received a well-deserved accolade for his heroic actions that fateful evening. His commitment to protecting others and his willingness to put himself at risk to ensure the safety of fellow citizens serve as a shining example to the community.

When asked about his brave intervention, Hodges humbly stated, “I just did what anyone else would have done in that situation. It’s important to look out for one another and help those in need.”
